We are thrilled to announce that we have very much started the year as we mean to go on, reaching another learner milestone less than a week into 2022!
25,000 learners are now certified as Carbon Literate. This means that over 50,000 actions have been pledged – in communities, businesses, local authorities, schools, and universities, across the UK and beyond – to cut carbon emissions across all sectors of our society.
Whether each of these 50,000 actions produces tiny or massive carbon savings, together, they build to have a tremendous carbon impact; becoming a wave, rather than a few ripples, towards the shore of our desired low-carbon future.
What’s more, with 25,000 Carbon Literate citizens spread across the globe – doing things differently, affecting their organisations and their neighbourhoods, creating the market for low-carbon goods and services, and changing society with increasing rapidity – a cultural shift is not only anticipated but already ensuing.
This is evident from the latest figures. We finished 2021 having certified close to 9,000 learners, almost doubling the number certified in 2020: our previous record-breaking year! Having now hit 25,000 certified learners, this rate of increase clearly shows no sign of slowing down. We are committed to keeping the pace of certification up in the months to come.
Since reaching our last learner milestone, we have also welcomed 2 new training professionals and over 100 newly engaged organisations, as well as having accredited 10 new CL training initiatives, all of which are sure to help keep the pace of change up.
We are enormously thankful to the Carbon Literacy community for their continued enthusiasm and effort – both new and longstanding members – without whom the ongoing spread of Carbon Literacy would not be possible.
