The third annual Carbon Literacy Action Day (CLAD) will take place on Monday 4th December 2023 – coinciding with COP28 – and you’re invited!
What is the Action Day?
The annual International Carbon Literacy Action Day is the world’s largest climate education-and-action training event. It brings together hundreds, and this year almost certainly thousands of people, from all walks of life, ages and countries all across the world, to simultaneously complete their day’s worth of Carbon Literacy training.
The Action Day coincides with COP28 – the largest climate event of the year. And so, while world leaders gather to discuss and negotiate on climate policy in Dubai, UAE, Carbon Literacy learners will be on-the-ground learning, collaborating and becoming empowered to take impactful action on climate change.
At 17.00 GMT on Monday 4th December, we will commence our Action Day Tour where training providers, from all around the world, can join together in one room to share stories and reflections of their training day. We will sample many of the training venues from the day, and maybe even hear some of the positive actions that learners have pledged to take! Meanwhile, we will be totalling the number of learners being reported on behalf of each organisation, and the predicted carbon saved as a result.
In last year’s Action Day, over 440 individuals simultaneously completed their Carbon Literacy training to become formally certified as Carbon Literate. These learners came from 31 organisations, spanning 11 sectors of society, that collectively delivered 38 individually unique Carbon Literacy courses across England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Australia. And we saw learners become trained from nations new to Carbon Literacy, including Brazil, China, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, the United States and the Philippines!
After the success of our second annual Action Day in November 2022, this year we aim to go bigger, better and bolder for version 3.0 later this year.
Why?
Because the climate crisis is everyone’s concern, the Carbon Literacy Action Day exemplifies our core value that Carbon Literacy can engage, educate and inspire everyone, everywhere. The Action Day is an opportunity for us all to showcase our collective breadth, vision and action by doing what we do best – educating people with Carbon Literacy, getting them to actively take action on climate change and bringing about a low-carbon culture in as many different settings and locations around the world as we possibly can.
Carbon Literacy is truly transformative, because not only do learners become equipped with knowledge on climate change, the science behind it and its effects both locally and globally, but learners are given the agency to turn this knowledge into action by committing to two pledges to tackle climate change – one as an individual and one as part of a wider group.
Since our launch in 2012, we have certified over 65,000 learners from more than 4,000 organisations, who have pledged and taken more than 130,000 actions to combat climate change, saving more than 230,000 tonnes of CO2e. As a result, the Project continues to grow at break-neck speed, and our ambition to engage and enable citizens everywhere to take meaningful action on climate change grows with it.
