Zainab Bibi is a researcher by profession, trainer by passion and an environmentalist by persistence. Currently, she is a PhD researcher at the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, The University of Manchester. She is the first ever certified Carbon Literacy Trainer (CLT) from The University of Manchester. She has been involved in training and consultancy for many years and her experience include designing and delivering training for schools, colleges, higher education institutions and commercial organisations. Her past work has received global recognition in the form of many international accolades includes the Queens Young Leaders Award, which was presented by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in June 2016 at Buckingham Palace.

Alison is the Projects and Sustainability Coordinator at HOME, Manchester. Since joining HOME in 2016, she has been instrumental in ensuring that environmental sustainability is embedded into each aspect of the organisation’s operations and activities. Core projects have included developing a sector-specific Carbon Literacy package in which she has delivered training to over 160 people including sector neighbours and partner organisations, with HOME becoming the first arts venue in the world to achieve 100% staff certified as Carbon Literate. A member of the Manchester Arts Sustainability Team (MAST), she collaborates with wider networks including Manchester Climate Change Agency to support Greater Manchester’s Zero Carbon 2038 ambitions. Current projects include preparing to become a ‘no single-use plastic’ organisation by 2020, coordinating a cross-sector sustainability steering group for neighbouring businesses and stakeholders, as well as being chief apiarist for HOME’s rooftop honeybee hives. HOME is now a Platinum accredited Carbon Literate Organisation and Alison is a certified Carbon Literacy Trainer.

Rhodri is educated to Masters level in Environmental Management and has a PGCE in adult education. He has been designing and delivering training on Sustainable Development and environmental management for communities, public bodies and businesses since 2009. This includes Carbon Literacy courses for Public Health Wales, Grwp Cynefin and the National Museum of Wales. Rhodri is leading the development of Carbon Literacy in Wales, working with others to develop courses, share learning and enable participation by a diversity of different interests. Since 2008 he has travelled to all parts of Wales, working with, learning about, and reporting on the environmental activities of businesses and communities. He has written environmental action plans and policies for a variety of businesses and charities. A former actor and university lecturer, Rhodri is a natural communicator, adept at helping people to understand climate change in their personal context.

Richard regularly teaches Carbon Literacy to colleagues at the BBC and occasionally beyond. He was one of the founders of the MediaCity Low Carbon Hub, which developed the world’s first Carbon Literacy course for the TV/broadcasting sector. Richard has taught the course to hundreds of people and regularly acts as an advocate for Carbon Literacy both internally at the BBC and externally. He is Chartered Environmentalist and Full Member of IEMA.

Russell has delivered training on behalf of Keep Scotland Beautiful (KSB) to representatives of community organisations across Scotland who are taking action on Climate Change. This has included representatives of faith-based organisations, community gardeners, Transition groups, active travel groups and energy advisors. Russell has extensive experience working, and volunteering, on carbon reduction projects, specifically in home energy awareness, community gardening, community engagement and encouraging behaviour change. He is also a trained ‘Carbon Conversations’ facilitator. Since joining the Climate Challenge Fund team at KSB he has expanded his knowledge to include low carbon travel and resource use. Russell is an experienced facilitator and trainer, and uses a learner-centred approach, meaning learners can easily apply Carbon Literacy to their day-day lives.

Lynsey delivered Carbon Literacy training to all the staff at Manchester Museum in 2016, to roll out to museums across the North West and other cultural organisations from 2017 onwards. She delivers training in numerous fields as part of her role as Museum Development Officer and Accreditation Adviser for Museum Development North West.

Michael is employed as Head of Commercial Operations at Manchester Museum, but has a long background in delivering Training Courses. Prior to the Museum he worked for Royal Doulton and was in charge of the North West Regional Training Shop. Here he delivered training to retail managers new to the industry and specialised in training for bridal display and presentations. As a T.A soldier he also served as an Instructor to Combat Medics and later Cadets delivering APC syllabus training to both. He later went on to work as a First Aid at Work Trainer and Consultant with a local company training the Forestry Commission`s tree surgeons. Since working at the Museum he has written and delivered a number of training programs around retail and customer service, and qualified as an NVQ Assessor in Heritage. Michael claims that “Carbon Literacy is something close to my heart so helping put together and deliver the first Heritage Specific Carbon Literacy Training has been an immense pleasure.”

Jeremy Mathieu has delivered Carbon Literacy training in media organisations and the creative industry in all corners of the UK. Adapting the training for each client, from large corporates to community projects, he has an engaging and dynamic style that conveys his passion for the creative aspect of the transition to a sustainable world. He has expertise in rolling out Carbon Literacy training as a programme within a large organisation, creating different modules for different functions. Raichael Lock has supported The Carbon Literacy Project since its inception and has delivered CL training to school staff and pupils across the NW. She has worked for the Manchester Environmental Education Network for 13 years delivering sustainability education projects, ran the government’s Sustainable Schools programme in the North West, the NW Growing Schools programme and worked for the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens. She is particularly experienced with facilitating intergenerational activities around climate change and sustainability.

Katherine plays a key role as Senior Trainer at Hulme Community Garden Centre and is responsible for delivering the Centre’s training programmes and as such works with a wide range of people from children and older people to adults with learning disabilities and/or mental health needs. Educated to degree level in horticulture, she has successfully applied her academic training to establish a thriving community garden at the Centre which forms the hub of HCGC’s training and volunteer activity and is visited by hundreds of people each month. She is also a qualified lecturer and since 2005 has successfully delivered accredited horticulture courses at HCGC (in conjunction with the Manchester College) as well as dozens of informal workshops aimed at empowering local residents to take up gardening and urban food production. She played a major role in developing the Centre’s off site community garden projects. Prior to her work with Hulme Community Garden Centre, she taught from the Manchester College within their horticulture department for 3 years and gained her PGCE qualification whilst there. Katherine says “I don’t consider myself a run of the mill trainer as I am constantly finding new ways of teaching and delivering courses, workshops and sessions to be inclusive to all and to get people to think outside their own environments.”
